Delivery

This is an incident when I started my business-engineering consultancy. When I decided to start, I shared the news with my friends/colleagues. Most of them were very prompt with offers for help. So Nima, one of my closest friend had suggested to go and meet Nitin Pai who is a Chartered Accountant. Nitin, Nima and I were ex-colleagues.

For the first few months, I registered the GST (Good and Services Tax) details on government website every month by myself. As there were no invoices initially, it was quite easy. I realised that after a few months I will be engrossed in technical things and that time I will not be able to keep track of GST. So I went to meet Nitin. Nitin and his wife Devashri, both CAs, were happy to support me. They had also recently started their own company providing Chartered Accountant services. Being from a middle class family, having limited funds, there is always a natural pressure to start earning regular income. So Nitin, Devashri and I were in the same boat. I knew Nitin to be a good, sincere and hard working person. While working for me, they never asked for money for the work they did. After invoicing started regularly, I paid them their fees.

When Nitin’s wife Devashri started to file the GST for my company every month, I used to send the invoice details to her. She would ask me for the OTP (One Time Password) which one receives on the phone/email) via phone message and file GST on every 19^th or 20^th of the month. We used to interact via email and for OTP via WhatsApp, since I became so busy that I couldn’t meet her. 

During one summer, I was at a site in Telangana. My cell would have network coverage for a very short time. So I informed her the time when I could send her the OTP. But even on 19^th ,  I had not got the message from her. So I called her phone and came to know that she is being taken in the maternity room for delivery. I thought to myself that now the GST will not get filed and maybe we would need to pay the penalty.

But to my surprise, in the evening of the same day, I got a message from Devashri asking for the OTP. I was thrilled, knowing the fact that although she had just become a new mother who had given birth just a few hours before, had still managed to file my GST. She should have rested, whereas, she did it considering it important.

In the service industry, timely delivery and quality is very important.Being in a hospital,having become a new mother, Devashri kept her commitment intact. She managed to file  GST on the same day of her delivery!

This is a wonderful example for the people who say 'Women don’t perform'.

वितरण ( डिलिव्हरी )

जेव्हा मी माझा व्यवसाय-अभियांत्रिकी सल्लागार कंपनी  सुरू केली तेव्हाची  ही घटना आहे. जेव्हा मी कंपनी सुरु करण्याचे ठरविले, तेव्हा मी हे माझ्या जवळच्या मैत्रिणींना, सहकाऱ्यांना सांगितले, बहुतेकांनी मला काही मदत लागली तर सांग असे म्हणून माझा उत्साह वाढवला.माझी मैत्रीण निमाने मला  सल्ला दिला  की नितीन पै जो चार्टर्ड अकाउंटंट आहे, त्याला जाऊन भेट. नितीन, निमा आणि मी आम्ही जुने सहकारी होतो.

पहिले  काही महिने  मी स्वत: दरमहा सरकारी वेबसाइटवर जीएसटी (गूड अँड सर्विसेस टॅक्स )भरत होते . सुरुवातीला फारसे इनव्हॉईसिंग (बील/चलन) नसल्याने हे सोपे होते. नंतर  माझ्या लक्षात आले कि  काही महिन्यांनंतर मी तांत्रिक गोष्टींमध्ये मग्न होईल, तेव्हा मी जीएसटीचा मागोवा ठेवू शकणार नाही. म्हणून मी नितीनला त्याच्या घरी भेटायला गेले. मला असे समजले नितीनची पत्नी देवश्रीहि चार्टर्ड अकाउंटंट आहे . त्या दोघांनी मला आनंदाने मदत करण्याचे मान्य केले . त्यांनीही  नुकतीच चार्टर्ड अकाउंटंट सेवा देणारी स्वतःची कंपनी देखील सुरू केली. मध्यमवर्गीय व्यक्ती असल्याने, मर्यादित निधी असल्याने, नियमित उत्पन्न मिळविण्यास नेहमीच नैसर्गिक दबाव असतो. म्हणजे  नितीन, देवश्री आणि मी एकाच बोटीमध्ये होतो. मी नितीनला खूप चांगला, प्रामाणिक आणि मेहनती माणूस म्हणून ओळखत होते . माझ्यासाठी काम करतांना त्यांनी कधीही केलेल्या कामाचे पैसे स्वतःहून मागितले नाहीत,व्यवस्थित इन्व्हॉसिंग सुरु झाल्यावर  मी त्यांची फी दिली.

नितीनची पत्नी, देवश्रीने जेव्हा  दरमहा माझ्या कंपनीसाठी जीएसटी दाखल करण्यास सुरवात केली.तेव्हा मी तिला बिलांचा तपशील पाठवत असे, ती मला ओटीपीसाठी (OTP:One Time Password) मेसेज पाठवत असे  आणि महिन्याच्या 19 वा 20 तारखेला जीएसटी दाखल करत असे. आम्ही ईमेलवर आणि ओटीपीसाठी व्हॉट्सअ‍ॅपवर संवाद साधत होतो. त्यानंतर मी माझ्या कामात इतकी व्यस्त झाले  की मी त्यांना प्रत्यक्ष जाऊन भेटू शकले नाही. 

एका उन्हाळ्यात मी तेलंगणात साइटवर होते . मी फारच कमी वेळ फोनच्या रेन्जमध्ये असायचे. म्हणून देवश्रीला मी कोणत्या वेळेला तिला ओटीपी  पाठवू शकते ते सांगितले.पण 19 तारखेलाही मला तिच्याकडून काही मेसेज आला नाही.म्हणून मी तिला फोन केला आणि मला कळले की तिला प्रसूतीसाठी प्रसूती कक्षात नेले जात आहे. मला वाटले की आता त्या महिन्याचा जीएसटी दाखल होणार नाही आणि कदाचित आम्हाला दंड भरावा लागेल.

पण आश्चर्य म्हणजे त्याच दिवशी संध्याकाळी मला देवश्रीचा ओटीपीसाठी  विचारणारा मेसेज  आला. तिने  बाळाला जन्म दिल्यानंतर काही तासातच काम सुरु केले होते. खरे तर तिला तेव्हा विश्रांतीची गरज असेल, पण तिने महत्वाचे होते म्हणून वेळात वेळ काढून हे काम करून टाकले. 

सेवा उद्योगात वेळेवर वितरण (डिलिव्हरी) आणि गुणवत्ता अत्यंत महत्त्वाची असते.प्रसूतीच्या दिवशी, दवाखान्यात  असतानाही देवश्रीने तिची  कामाबद्दलची निष्ठा अबाधित ठेवली. 

जे लोक म्हणतात 'स्रिया त्यांचे काम जबाबदारीने करू शकत नाहीत ' त्यांच्यासाठी हे उत्तम उदाहरण आहे.
